Awarded with a gold medal at the 2017 Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards, La Motte’s recently released 2016 Pierneef Sauvignon Blanc reaffirms its status as a complex and intriguing style of Sauvignon Blanc – ideal for both the dinner table and maturation cellar.

The 2016 Pierneef Sauvignon Blancis a blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Semillon. The grapes originate from the cool climate of the South Coast with the Sauvignon Blanc harvested in Elgin, Bot River, Elim and Napier and the Semillon in Elim. These vineyards fall under the new Origin Cape South Coast classification and are amongst the most southerly situated vineyards in Africa.

Fermentation took place at 14 degrees Celsius. The wine received skin contact for 16 hours and was left on the fine lees for 5 months before blending and bottling on the estate.

While not made in a full-ripe style, the 2016 vintage offers intense citrus and granadilla flavours with fresh green pepper in the background. The palate is elegant with a lovely minerality to the finish. The flavour profile is intricate, the wine versatile and the maturation potential exceptional.
