Blaauwklippen
The time has come once again to put your wine knowledge to the ultimate test and prove to everyone you’re the expert you always claim to be; it’s the 34th Annual Blaauwklippen Blending Competition!

All entered blends of the individual wine clubs/societies will compete against each other, with the winning blend to be sold under the Blaauwklippen Cabriolet label in a Magnum (1.5 litre) bottle and a 750ml bottle.

Since its inception in 1984, the Blaauwklippen Blending Competition remains the only wine competition in South Africa aimed at consumers and not producers, over 30 consecutive years later! The competition has grown from strength to strength over the years, with more entries each year, and has even attracted international recognition and interest, with German wine club Weinnasen from Rindchen’s Weinkontor Uhlenhorst claiming the honours for the last 2 years running. So no pressure on all our SA entrants, but the locals have a task ahead of them to get the trophy back in South African hands!

For the 34th edition, the challenge is to craft a serious red blend with a deep structure and good ageing potential. Blenders will receive 5 base wines and all 5 must be used in the final blend. The base wines are as follows: Zinfandel 2016 (maximum of 10% of blend), Cabernet Franc 2016 (maximum of 40% of blend), Merlot 2016, Petit Verdot 2016 and Shiraz 2016. All entrants receive a hamper containing a 750ml bottle of each of these five wines, along with a plastic measuring cylinder, allowing you to measure and mix with ease.

This historic event calls together friends and family to join together and enjoy the wine blending experience not often available to those not directly involved in the wine industry. So whether you’re a regular, or a brand new prospect, make sure you enter today and put your mark in history on the 34th Annual Blaauwklippen Blending Competition.
