Catharina’s Executive Chef, Archie Maclean, has tweaked his special lunch menu with more choice and additional comfort dishes that fit the bill perfectly for a cosy fireside lunch in Steenberg’s idyllic Cape Dutch surroundings.

One of the jewels on the Constantia wine route, Catharina’s Restaurant offers a two or three course lunch alternative to the full à la carte and tasting menus – perfect for locals to tuck into during Cape Town’s long winter season.

For starters there is a choice between roast cream of tomato soup with herb crème fraîche; crumbed mushroom with spiced couscous; or opt for the confit chicken Caesar salad.

A hearty curried seafood risotto; a 200g sirloin steak with sautéed spinach and a beetroot & leek ragout; or a crisp chicken & cheddar burger with hand-cut chips make up the trio of mains.

Dessert lovers can hark back to the intrepid days of Catharina Ras, Steenberg’s 17th century founder, while tucking into rooibos crème brûlée and frozen melktert. You may want to opt for lighter refreshment with a selection of three seasonal sorbets; or choose the chocolate crémeux vanilla bavarois with white chocolate sorbet and grapefruit compote.

Priced at R165 for the two course menu and R195 for three courses, this is the ideal lunch menu to enjoy while soaking up Catharina’s nostalgia inside the restaurant.

With Steenberg’s excellent selection of bubblies, Sauvignon Blanc and elegant reds, there is ample choice for the perfect wine to enjoy with your meal.

Catharina’s Restaurant is open 7-days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
