There are many stories about dogs waiting for their master to come home, long after the master has passed on. The Mulderbosch Faithful Hound 2015 is a wine which has been named for such a dog.

A Bordeaux white wine blend of Semillon 62% and Sauvignon Blanc 38%.  The Semillon grapes come from a vineyard panted in 1936 in the traditional home of the grape, the Franschhoek Valley, while the Sauvignon Blanc came from Elgin, Darling and Stellenbosch Wine Appellations.

Adam Mason, Mulderbosch Winemaker pressed the Semillon as whole bunches and the juice was taken to 500 litre French oak barrels where natural alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation took place. The wine was kept on its lees.  The Sauvignon Blanc was tank fermented and then taken to neutral 500 litre French oak barrels for maturation on its lees for 12 months. The two wines were then blended and prepared for bottling.

It smells like
Whiffs of pears and baked quinces. Almond shortbread.

It tastes like
The Semillon give a rich silken feel to the wine while the Sauvignon Blanc adds the zippiness. Lovely citrus and stone fruit flavours which end in a long lime squirt aftertaste.

It’s good with
This is a food wine and can take quite fully flavoured dishes. To kick off a meal, there are few dishes as delicious as Justine Wall's Cauliflower Puffs, made in her Wiltshire kitchen.  Click here for her recipe.
