Collective Excellence - A team effort from grape to glass

Darling Cellars
Not only did Darling Cellars scoop the trophy for the Best Chenin Blanc at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, but it was also awarded two silver medals; certainly achievements to shout about.

Every bit as important is the fact that DARLING CELLARS was recognised as one of the top FIVE producers overall and the ONLY “collective” cellar in the line-up.

This highlights once again the standard of consistency, excellence and great value, that consumers have come to expect from this the biggest of Darling producers.

All great (and less great!) wine begins in the vineyard and it is here that Darling Cellars, as a “collective” producer has a great advantage, in that this allows it CHOICE. While in no way denying the excellence of Estate wines, one of the constraints faced by Estate producers is that their selection is limited to within their boundaries.

With only 13 Darling vineyards of a total of 1000 hectares of vineyard, and 2.5 million vines ranging from 5 to 50 years old, there is a lot to choose from. This makes us big enough to be a meaningful player and yet small enough to be able to work closely with wine growers and produce wine with provenance and identity, which for us is what it is all about.

Darling Cellars Takes The Trophy
1. Best Chenin Blanc on Show - Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc 2016
2. Silver Medal - Old Bush Wine Cinsaut 2015
3. Silver Medal - Sir Charles Henry Darling (Red Blend) 2015
4. Rated the 4th most successful producer overall
5. The only “collective” cellar in the top ten producers

It has been an incredibly successful year for Darling Cellars which once again proves the quality and consistency coming from this collective producer in the Darling Region. Head winemaker Pieter-Niel Rossouw attributes this to the following:

A committed and dedicated membership of wine growers.
Being able to benefit from some really old bush vines in the fruit basket.
A site, soil and climate selection that is a winemaker's dream.
A dynamic and driven winemaking team.
A corporate culture of “quality first”.
