July means only one thing in the racing fraternity – The Durban July! With the TBA presenting the KZN Yearling Sale on Thursday, 29 June and the actual race day on Saturday, 1 July, everyone to do with racing, breeding, training and a substantial number of celebs, will be making their way to this coastal city for the weekend.

WINEMAKER EXPLORES HISTORY OF WINE GLASS We’re having lots of fun putting together our tutored tasting for Saturday, 15 July from 11h00 to 12h30 when Jan will be presenting some of our wines in the most varied, weird and wonderful containers (for want of a better word), to enable participants to decide for themselves which option works best. Join us for this intimate experience in the tasting room. Cost R100 pp. Includes tutored tasting, light lunch with a glass of wine. winery@avontuurestate.co.za.

TASTING ROOM SPECIAL Our Above Royalty Liqueur wine has a legion of fans and it is the best thing for a cold winter day. Try it with chocolates, over ice cream, in coffee or on its own. It’s on special this month at R170 for TWO bottles! (Usual price: R120 each). CAB FRANC CARNIVAL VOTERS WIN BIG Congratulations to the winners of the public voting drive at the Western Cape and Gauteng events and who have received their prizes. RECIPE PAGE LAUNCHED ON OUR WEBSITE We’ve recently received some stunning recipe’s paired with our wines courtesy of blogger Elmarie Berry of Elmarie Berry Good Food. Tasting Room manager Ella Grimston of Bake Your Day is no slouch either when it comes to baking and desserts, so we’ve asked her to add a few of her own. And then there is obviously our own Avontuur Restaurant team, Melanie and Zunia who make food sing every day!

So, we’ve created a recipe space on our website where we can collect and keep our recipe’s! You are welcome to visit our new recipe page on our website and we’d love to hear from you if you have the perfect food pairing with one of our wines. Every recipe sent in to cobie@avontuurestate.co.za with a pic featuring our wine will be tested and if suitable, will be added to our recipe page. At the end of the year, the best recipe will win a wine prize for Christmas!

WINTER DINING AT AVONTUUR From 5-7 pm every Wednesday and Friday evening, its time for our Early Bird Special and we invite you to join us. Only R180 for a 2-course and R220 for a 3-course. Thereafter, we’re open for A-la-carte dining, if you’re in the mood for a more leisurely evening next to the fireplace.
