Babylonstoren
The International Wine & Spirit Competition is one of the most respected wine competitions in the world. It has been awarding excellently crafted wine since 1969. This year’s IWSC winners have just been announced, and all three of the wines that we entered received awards.

Our 2016 Chardonnay was awarded Silver while both the reds, 2015 Shiraz and 2015 Nebukadnesar, were awarded Silver Outstanding.

Being recognised by the IWSC is no mean feat. They receive entries from around the globe and the rigorous two-stage judging process takes place over seven months. Handpicked oenophiles first taste each wine blind before it undergoes a chemical analysis to determine longevity. With these new accolades, the three wines will make a welcome addition to any wine collection.

2016 Chardonnay
100% chardonnay A big wine for special occasions. This dry, full-bodied white is matured for 12 months in new 300 litre French oak barrels. It is characterised by tangy citrus fruits softened by undertones of vanilla and a nutty complexity. Colour: Bright yellow with good depth. Bouquet: A Burgundy-style chardonnay with a fresh, fine-grained nose of quince, satsuma, lime and vanilla as well as white flowers and freshly cracked walnuts. Taste: Classy, sleek structure with subtle citrus fruit softened with textured creaminess, vanilla and nutty complexity. Tangy mineral tones with fine intensity and balance; good focus and length with a refreshing finish.

2015 Shiraz
100% shiraz Matured in French oak, this wine has a surprisingly fresh mid-palate with cherry and soft prune dark flavours and a hint of spice. Colour: Deep ruby red colour. Bouquet: Fruit driven, cool cassis and white pepper spiciness on the nose. Deep ripe fruit, a little dustiness and fragrant violets. Taste: Surprisingly fresh mid-palate, velvety mouth-feel and long, lingering finish.

2015 Nebukadnesar
Our flagship Bordeaux blend is set to be a classic with an intriguing fragrance of violets and thyme. Dry and full-bodied, it is a well-balanced wine with a spicy warmth and intense undertones of blackcurrant and tobacco. Colour: Deep, saturated dark ruby colour Bouquet: Intriguing fragrance of violets and thyme, intense blackcurrant and underlying cigar-box and exotic floral tones. Taste: Superbly crafted with good balance of vibrant multi-layered fruit supported by tight, well-honed tannins. Handles the oak effortlessly. Opulent yet sophisticated with a long, compelling finish. Satisfying now, but with time will develop and unfold its many treasures. Blend: 46% cabernet sauvignon, 18% merlot, 15% petit verdot, 12% cabernet franc and 9% malbec
