Pippa is particularly excited about a very nice Var filly out of River Jetez, a Silvano filly out of Varumba and an outstanding Var colt out of Torra Bay. “For some reason colts are dominant this year with great quality on show already. I am also impressed with our three maiden mares who have all thrown particularly good foals. Madam Justice (half-sister to Legislate) and stakes winner Peep Show each had smart Var colts whilst Hannah Gorgeous (half-sister to Futura) is the proud dam of an Oratorio colt.” Minelli has had a stunning Dynasty colt who is a half-brother to Val de Ra whilst Val de Ra herself is safely in foal to Trippi. Dream de Ra, who was retired due to injury, is in foal to What a Winter, which should result in some seriously good racing material!
Cab Sauv Old and New Impresses
We had an informative email from USA wine lover Orv Lyons recently who recounted his enjoyment of the 1999 Avontuur Cabernet Sauvignon, opened on “Braai Day”, which he said was still in fine nick. We were not surprised as the recently released 2013 is racking up the awards too, with the most recent addition being a Bronze medal at the International Wine and Spirits Award. It just shows once again that the Helderberg region can rightly be called the “home of Cabernet Sauvignon” in South Africa. Grab a 3-pack of the 2013 this month from the tasting room at only R300, instead of the usual R354 – and prove this to yourself. What's on in the Tasting Room?
We’re offering two pairings in the tasting room this month, satisfying all palates: A savoury biltong and wine pairing and a sweet confectionary pairing at R80 pp each. Although the pairings are available whenever the tasting room is open, it’s always better to let the team know beforehand if you can, and especially if you are a larger group! Our tasting room platters are perfect if you want to have a quick meal. Try the Cheese platter (a selection of local cheese, preserves, seasonal fruit and crackers) or the Antipasto Platter featuring cold meats, carpaccio, duck liver pate and fresh bread at only R105 each.
