Diemersfontein
‘Would that painting not make a beautiful wine label?’ Sue Sonnenberg said to David one evening in the dining room of the manor house.

It wasn’t too long after that momentous night that the iconic Carl Büchner’s harlequin depiction on the wall became the story behind this new Shiraz and Pinotage blend.

With Diemersfontein being celebrated as one of the stellar Pinotage producers in South Africa it was just natural to produce a Cape blend for this exciting new wine. 70% of the blend is Shiraz and shows the versatility of this estate in producing excellent wines across all varietals. Diemersfontein was the original producer of the Coffee Chocolate Pinotage phenomenon and the Harlequin also boasts delicate flavours of mocha and cocoa just like its iconic older brother, the Diemersfontein Pinotage. Juicy plum flavours and magically integrated tannin makes this wine a true delight.

This wine salutes the memory of the exemplary artist Carl Büchner. Throughout all the phases of Büchner’s career he revealed himself unwaveringly as a romantic humanist. The human figure has provided the most frequently-recurrent motif of his work. His figures were sensitively portrayed: slightly elongated forms, expressionist distortion and romantic colour-usage contributing to the generally poetic effect, as this painting of the Harlequin portrays. It is rather apt that sales of this wine will also generate a modest fund for emerging artists in collaboration with Association of Arts in Pretoria.

A great story, a delectable wine and a very special label is not all that this Harlequin has to offer. At only R59.00 from Diemersfontein it also puts the wine in a very attractive price bracket during a time where economic uncertainty is at the forefront of many conversations.

We invite you to come over to visit the estate in Wellington, savour this delightful new wine and all the others in the Diemersfontein stable and while you are here, why not stay and enjoy a scrumptious meal at Season’s Restaurant or stay the night in our gracious guesthouse.
