These medals once again affirm the pedigree of our Stellenbosch property, and we are focusing on producing award-winning South African wines that can be enjoyed across all price points,” states cellarmaster, Alastair Rimmer.

Veritas Awards in its 27th year strives to honour SA’s finest wines and the medals are recognised as a symbol of quality not only in South Africa but globally too. In 2017 there were 71 Double Gold medals and 193 Gold medals awarded from the 1600 entries received.

Kleine Zalze’s success at Veritas was emulated at other competitions earlier in 2017 including 2 Gold and 2 Double Gold medals at The Michelangelo International Wine Awards, and an IWSC Gold medal.

Another notable achievement was the Family Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2017 placing in the FNB Top 10 Sauvignon Blanc competition in October.

At the 21st Grand International MUNDUS VINI Summer Tasting Awards that was hosted in Neustadt, Germany, the Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Shiraz 2013 was awarded “Best South African Red on Show”. In total, the nearly 164 members of the tasting panel from 41 nations awarded 16 coveted Grand Gold, 703 Gold and 1001 Silver medals. The Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 and Cellar Selection Chenin Blanc 2017 also received gold medals.

In his sixth annual guide to South Africa, award-winning British journalist and Master of Wine Tim Atkin argues that the Cape is making the best wines in its 358-year history and that its industry is “dynamic, exciting and still evolving”.

Atkin tasted 7 of Kleine Zalze’s wines earlier this year and all of the wines were rated between 91 and 94 points.
