Org de Rac
Respected wine journalist and Master of Wine, Tim Atkin, awarded 91 points to Org de Rac Die Waghuis 2016, the premium white blend that launches this month alongside its red partner.

Both wines are named for "Die Waghuis" – the guardhouse that in the 18th Century was erected in the foothills of the scenic Piketberg mountain that flanks the Org de Rac Estate. The label on both bottles depicts the historic, but largely unknown, fortress that to this day keeps watch over the Estate.

Die Waghuis white blend that caught the attention of Tim Atkin combines Verdelho, Roussanne and Chenin Blanc varietals in a rich, honey-coloured wine, with a vivacious green tint. It is a crisp wine that features depth of fruit against a subtle wood backdrop, and a pronounced mouth feel with velvety creaminess on the aftertaste.

Die Waghuis white earned a gold medal at this year’s Michaelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards. Die Waghuis red is an equally lively wine. It is a well-balanced blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvédre and Verdelho varietals, with ripe fruit flavours elegantly supported by soft waves of tannin.

Die Waghuis red has a lingering aftertaste and no obvious varietal dominance on the nose.

“These are both premium wines and we are proud and excited to launch Die Waghuis ahead of the busy summer season,” said Org de Rac Sales and Marketing Manager, Bethchen Zaayman

Dirt Road Challenge grows and grows

Hundreds of cyclists, trail runners and their families flocked to the Org de Rac Estate on a beautiful morning in October to participate in the Dirt Road Challenge − an annual fundraiser for nearby Piketberg High School.

Fifty percent more cyclists participated in this year’s event and the Dirt Road Challenge is clearly making its mark on the South African cycling calendar.

The event also provides a wonderful opportunity for Org de Rac to host the Piketberg community, and showcase its wines to them.

“Org de Rac has an exceptionally beautiful view of the Swartland and beautiful facilities,” says race organiser, Delanie Jooste, “it is really lovely to work with the Org de Rac team, they are always very friendly and very helpful.”

Funds raised by the Dirt Road Challenge are used by the local high school to maintain facilities and ensure a high standard of education.

Org de Rac expands its global footprint

Wine lovers in Germany, Poland and other parts of Europe will be pleased to hear that Org de Rac has appointed Bert’s Wein Express as its European agent.

Located in the southeastern German city of Regensburg, Bert’s imports fine wines from around the world and stores more than 100 000 bottles from 140 wineries in its historic vaulted cellars.

The company works closely with wine merchants throughout Germany, and as far afield as Scandinavia, Poland and Russia.

The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it!

Org de Rac’s popular MCC and oysters promotion will continue for the summer months, from November through to January.

When you visit the Org de Rac Estate on a Friday or Saturday, you will be able to enjoy the ultimate pairing: fresh West Coast oysters and Org de Rac’s truly sublime Cuvée La Verne MCC − together, as they should be.
