Naudé Family Wines
Ian Naudé is embarking on one the most exciting and challenging phases of his winemaking career to date: ownership of his own wine label – Naudé Family Wines.

Naudé wines are now fully under his ownership. Established in 2005, with the first vintage in 2006, Adoro achieved renowned success for its 2007 vintage red blend that was acclaimed as one of Decanter Magazine’s Top 50 Wines of The Year in 2013.

Naudé maintains and concedes that although this is an exciting yet terrifying adventure, he is confident that he is able to draw on the lessons learned in a winemaking career spanning three decades. He has worked abroad for extended periods and gained experience in America (California and Washington States), Germany, France, Italy and even Israel.

“I have spent my career refining my ideas and now I have the blueprint. It is about what the terroir and the vine have to say. My job is just to carefully shepherd that into the bottle.”

Increasing followers of his Naudé Old Vines Cinsaut, Grenache and Chenin Blanc are testimony to the success of his ‘less is more’ approach.

“You eventually reach a point in winemaking where you find a happy place; Naudé Family Wines and my focus on old vines and terroir expression is that place.”

Naudé is now at the vanguard of the new wave of South African wines which are exciting critics and commentators locally and abroad.
