Once again the popular pre-auction winetasting for the public will be held in Cape Town on Wednesday, 22 February and provides an ideal opportunity for winelovers to taste some of the extraordinary wines that will be offered for sale at the annual Nederburg Auction in Paarl on 7 and 8 April this year.
As only licensees may bid on the Auction the pre-tasting gives winelovers and enthusiasts the chance to select the wines they would like to acquire and ask their local bottle store, wine shop or supermarket wine buyer to purchase on their behalf. The Cape Town tasting will be conducted by Wine Consultant, Bennie Howard at the BMW Pavilion, Waterfront on Wednesday, 22 February, at 18h30 for 19h00. The line-up includes two brand new wines to be launched on the auction from Nederburg – the Nederburg Auction Private Bin D212 Viognier 2004 and the Nederburg Auction Cabernet Franc 2001. There is also an interesting blend of Semillon/Viognier in the Nederburg Auction Private Bin D224 2003. Of the six new participants on auction this year – there will be a preview from three of them - Avondale’s Shiraz 2001, Uva Mira Vineyards Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2004 and Kaapzicht Steytler Vision 2001 - a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, with a touch of Merlot. This multiple award-winning wine, the Kaapzicht Steytler Vision 2001 is sure to attract attention. In 2004 it was the winner of the Pichon Lalande Trophy at the International Wine and Spirit Competition, a gold winner at Concours Mondial in Brussels and a Veritas double gold winner. It also won a double gold medal at the 2003 Michelangelo International Wine Awards and was rated five stars in the 2005 John Platter South African Wine Guide. Nederburg showcases its award-winning wine, the Nederburg Private Bin Eminence (Noble Late Harvest Muscadel) 2004, a winner of the Grand d’Or at Michelangelo International Wine Awards in 2004. Not to be missed, of course, will be Nederburg’s signature dessert wine – the golden luscious Nederburg Private Bin Edelkeur (Chenin Blanc Noble Late Harvest) 2003. Tickets cost R100 per person and will include sparkling wine on arrival and light snacks afterwards. Bookings can be made through Computicket, Computicket counters in MTN shops or by visiting the website www.computicket.com.
