Michael Olivier, Pick ‘n Pay Wine and Food Specialist and well known Cape wine and foodie, is about to embark for the Persian Gulf to present a South African Wine and Food Week at the Gulf Hotel in Bahrain.
He will be accompanied by well known Cape chef, former chef owner of Jemima’s in Oudtshoorn and national top ten restaurateur, Annette le Roux.

“Having done a Cape Malay Week on Voyager Wine Estate during a recent Margaret River Wine Festival in Western Australia, I was happy to accept an invitation from Stuart Chase, the general manager of the Gulf Hotel in Bahrain to do the same in his hotel, ” said Michael.  “And to work in the kitchen alongside Executive Chef Neil Mason to  produce true-to-type South African food, I knew I had to take Annette, a Master at the vernacular.  Ostrich and venison will also feature on our menus.”

Michael and Annette will be showcasing some well known Cape wines during buffet dinners, theatre shows and in the hotel’s fine dining a la Carte restaurant, Fusions.

“Stuart has really got into the swing of things and, working through the South African Embassy has invited the Barnyard Theatre group to provide entertainment during the hotel’s South African Wine and Food Festival,” added Michael.  “We fly to Bahrain as guests of Gulf Air.  Award winning winemaker Reni Hildenbrand will be there the week after us to showcase her wines and olive oils.”

Recipes will be taken from Michael’s book, Michael Olivier – a Restaurateur Remembers and from both Michael’s former restaurant Parks and Annette’s Jemima’s.

The South African Wine and Food Week with Michael and Annette takes place at The Gulf Hotel in Bahrain from February 19th to 25th.
