Bellini originally created in 1948 and named after artist Giovanni Bellini, the founder of the Venetian school of painting, is world renowned as the 'cocktail of Venice.' Now, for the first time, Bellini is available in South Africa as a wine-based cocktail packaged in a stylish champagne bottle that showcases its pink colour. Named after the drink made famous by Ernest Hemingway, it is a Venetian custom to down a few Bellini's before or after a meal. Bellini is also the official drink of the Venetian Carnival, the largest and most important Venetian festival that attracts thousands of people from around the world each year. Canella is an award winning producer of Prosecco, Italy's light and fruity sparkling wine, or "frizzante". To maintain the freshness and delicacy of the original Bellini recipe, they begin with 70 percent Prosecco and then blend in fresh puree made from ultra ripe Maria Bianca white peaches the Canellas grow along with their wine grapes. The mixture is then coloured with wild raspberry juice to give it its pink hue. Canella bottles its Prosecco all year long in small batches to provide the freshest possible product to the marketplace.
