| The solitary Cap Classique to win gold at the 2008 Veritas Wine Awards was the acclaimed Desiderius Pongrácz 2000. |
|
This charismatic signature Méthode Cap Classique, lauded a bubbly to rival French Champagne, overwhelmed the competition of 21 sparkling contenders at this year's challenge.
A nobleman and refugee from the Hungarian uprising, Desiderius Pongrácz was the inspiration for the classic Méthode Cap Classique range, which reflects his fresh and innovative approach to winemaking.
Crafted according to the time honoured French method of bottle fermentation that gives rise to the delicate, fine bubbles, Desiderius Pongrácz 2000 is composed of two noble varieties Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Pinot Noir imparts a clean flintiness to this aromatic bubbly, whilst the Chardonnay lends body and taste. It has a wonderful foaming mousse with a persistent bead and an unusual lingering aftertaste.
Delightfully elegant, Desiderius Pongrácz 2000 has a rich complexity, classic yeasty character and delectable dry taste. As the wine matures it tends to give wonderful creamy, nutty characteristics on the nose and a full bodied palate which lasts for ages on the palate. |
