About Us

Cradled in the beautiful Tulbagh valley and flanked by rugged mountains, the Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate has vineyards reaching up the east-facing slopes of the Saron Peak, while the cellar lies at the foot of the mountains.

The wine farm boasts a history of 300 years and despite the timeless feel and long history of the property, it has been the site of much innovation. In the 1950’s, the cold fermentation process was introduced at Twee Jonge Gezellen - a first in the wine industry and a giant leap in the practice of making quality wines in a warm climate. Some 30 years later, in the early 1980's, night harvesting was introduced as a way to preserve grape quality and the delicate aromas and flavours of the freshly picked grapes.

The Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate specializes in the production of bottle fermented Krone Sparkling Wines, with a dedicated range of Méthode Cap Classique products on offer. Méthode Cap Classique (MCC) is the term which describes the South African bottle-fermented production of sparkling wines in the French méthode champenoise style. The Krone MCCs all carry a vintage so showing the commitment to the making of quality wine no matter what the weather conditions. The very first Krone Borealis Vintage Cuvée Brut, the 1987, was launched to much acclaim in 1991. This was followed by the introduction of the Krone Rosé Vintage Cuvée Brut and the Nicolas Charles Marque 1 which is the House’s Special Cuvée and a blend of three vintages. The most recent release amongst the MCCs is the Krone Demi-Sec, known as Night Nectar, which has a stylish gold label and an off-dry flavour so appealing to both the eye and the palate. All of the MCCs at Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate mature on the lees in what is Africa’s first underground MCC sparkling wine cellar.

A new addition to the range came with the launch in 2013 of the Krone Chardonnay Pinot Noir which gives loyal followers of Krone the opportunity to enjoy all that defines the Cap Classiques in a still version of the classic Champagne combination of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Combined in perfect proportions, these two noble grapes create a wine, which is full of appealing flavour, yet, remains balanced and refreshing.
