in the vineyard :  2009 was the first year that all the grapes from the blend went through the sorting table. Owing to the style and nature of the wine no Cabernet Sauvignon was used in this blend making this the first year that the Marlbrook has been a Merlot-based blend. The Merlot was complimented by our excellent Malbec fruit and the structure and backbone of the Petit Verdot as well as a dash of Shiraz just to add some finesse and complexity.

about the harvest:

in the cellar :  Each and every barrel was tasted, evaluated and carefully selected to meet with the classic Marlbrook style. After blending, the wine was returned to barrel for a further 4 months taking the time in barrel to 26 months. This allowed for further development and tannin integration which is very evident in the wine today.
