Gold Wine Awards 2014 - Gold Medal
Vitis Vinifera Awards 2014 - Gold Medal

ageing : This wine is drinking exceptionally well now and will continue to do so till the end of 2018.

The best of both worlds with a beautiful balance between the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Merlot with just a dash of Cabernet Franc to soften it. Just like the Miners, this wine is the perfect everyday hard worker. Robust enough to serve with a good old South African Sunday roast but soft enough to placate the mother-in-law at the end of a rough day - the 14% alcohol should soften even the sharpest lounge. After fermenting in oak barrels for 18 months this wine should last you well into 2018, if you can wait that long.

in the vineyard : Tree wire Perold trellising, Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 2002 and Merlot as well as Cabernet franc in 2003 on Koffieklip.

about the harvest: Picking started when the grapes were at 24.5°Balling, the acidity in the vineyard were still well above 6.5g/l with pH at 3.5.

in the cellar : Fermentation started immediately using WE372 as yeast - generally warm fermentation at below 30°C with pump-overs twice a day. After secondary fermentation the wine was transferred to 2nd and 3rd fill French Oak barriques and aged for 18 months.
