Medium intensity of colour with attractive brightness. The bouquet is a lively amalgam of Grenache perfumes and spice with gentle cedary notes. Elegently defined palate with a fine balance between weight and strength. Soft tannins with some savoury grip to finish.

These limited release wines demonstrate the distinctiveness of specific vineyard sites and represent our finest quality. The mountain vineyards of Piekenierskloof are known to produce outstanding Grenache.

in the vineyard : 

This wine was sourced from bush vines that were planted in 1954 in the Piekenierskloof. The soils are table mountain sandstone. 

about the harvest: 

Harvest commenced on 27th March. Grapes were harvested at 24.7° B with a total acid of 7.0 g/l and a pH of 3.30.

in the cellar : 

Fermentation initiated in stainless tanks and underwent a series of punch downs before completion of fermentation and malolactic fermentation in the barrel. This wine spent 17 months on 20% new, 20% 2nd , 60% 3rd fill and older barrels.
