Tasting Notes

Refreshing, vibrant and crisp Chenin Blanc, with notes of tropical fruit, guava and hints of citrus. Well balanced and complex. 5% of the Chenin Blanc was matured for 3 months in 2nd fill oak barrels, which gives the wine a beautiful complexity and a long, lingering finish.

Blend Information

85% Chenin Blanc, 10% Colombard, 5% Chardonnay.

Food Suggestions

Enjoy well chilled, perfect serving temperature 10-12°C. Pairs very well with roast chicken, white meats, seafood and fresh salads.

In The Vineyard

Wine of Origin Wellington. Wellington has become independent from Paarl and is now a separate district. Granite soils and Mediterranean climate. Low yields of 6-8 tons/ha. Warm and sunny days with cooler nights and a light afternoon breeze from the Atlantic Ocean.

About The Harvest

The grapes are hand-harvested in the early morning hours when the temperatures are still low, 50% of the grapes at a relavtively low degree balling, to ensure the freshness of the wine. Yields on average went up and, despite wet conditions early in the season, a dry, warm spell in February allowed early-ripening whites to be picked under good conditions. The growing season was marked by rainy conditions early, which led to higher-than-usual disease pressures. The growing season also ran late, and many varieties ripened at or near the same time, putting stress on wineries where space is a premium. Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc did very well in this year.

In The Cellar

Temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. 5% of the Chenin Blanc portion was matured for 3 months in 2nd fill oak barrels. Bottled under screw cap.
