Kevin Arnold Shiraz 2013 - Nadine

Vibrant dark fruit, earthy and clove pepper spice lead the aromatics of this Stellenbosch Shiraz, accompanied by soft liquorice undertones. Natural acidity and the classic granular tannins are very characteristic of the voluptuous nature of a Stellenbosch Shiraz. This vintage is named after Nadine, Kevin and Heather's daughter.

in the vineyard : A long and cold 2012 winter, 35% more rain than usual. An excellent growing season until storm winds hit late in October (up to 118km/hr) causing excessive damage in the vineyards, crop losses of up to 60%. Odd showers during the second half of the harvest gave reds a longer hang time. Outstanding white wines, in particular Chardonnay. Red wines came out with lovely soft textures and richness.

in the cellar :

Fermentation: Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in Stainless steel
Barrel ageing: Old 225 litre and 500 litre French barrels, 20 months
