Villiera Merlot Pinotage 2001

The wine demonstrates an attractive deep red colour with forthcoming aromas of berry fruit and spice. The oak gently penetrates the bouquet with hint of vanilla and tobacco. On the palate the wine is well balanced with soft tannins and a rich long finish.

in the cellar : The 2001 Vintage was warm which guaranteed optimum ripeness and therefore another ideal vintage for a Cape Blend. After primary fermentation in Rototanks the wine was pressed and racked to stainless steel tanks for malo lactic fermentation. Thereafter it was barred matured in 225l French oak barrels for 12 months. 60% of the barrels were new tight grain from the centre of France. The balance was made up of 20% new American white oak barrels (225l) and 20% used American white oak barrels.
