Bouchard Finlayson Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2012

Perhaps best described as most typically Pinot Noir like in flavor as previous vintages which could have been defined as more dark and robust. A beautiful wine, deftly balanced with lots of red berry fruit character and pretty floral aromas.

in the vineyard : This vintage follows the wonderfully successful 2011 release which managed to secure no less than three notable accolades! Immediately it could be pointed out that this being a different vintage represents no correlation to 2011. My response is that I personally regard this as a more notable vintage and herein rests the excitement at tracking its "fast forward" performance, "to be"! Further happiness is that this is an even year and as with the 2010 excellent weather conditions were experienced during this vintage! It has also presented a super crop of both quality and quantum which means we have a useful supply of great Pinot noir from 2012.

Our vineyards are unique in the Cape in that we copy the Burgundian model of planting Pinot Noir according to its tightly spaced tradition. Such close plantings offer greater competition between vines, leading to less vigour and consequent brighter wines with more depth and colour. It must be appreciated that close plantings are historically in keeping with vineyards being tended to by horses verses modern day tractors which have transformed the industry to offering wider spaced vineyard rows.

in the cellar : Excellent small French oak barrel maturation contribution has assisted in achieving a super core strength to this wine.
