Raats Family Wines
Raats Chenin Blanc 2004 was awarded 91 points in the November issue of Wine Spectator – again!
James Molesworth critiqued the wine, commenting as follows: ‘Rich, with layers of powered ginger, apple and piecrust stitched with fine acidity and minerality. Turns bracing and dry on the finish, with orange blossom and dried persimmon hints. Should age nicely too. Drink now through 2007.’ The Raats Chenin Blanc 2002 broke new ground for South African Chenin Blanc when it was awarded 91 points in the same publication last year, a then unprecedented score for a local offering of this previously unsung varietal. Raats Family Wines received further accolades in this critically important market for South African wines when it was named one of the globe’s twenty Best New Wineries by American Food and Wine magazine in 2004. Comments proprietor-winemaker Bruwer Raats: ‘This latest Spectator score marks the coming of age of South African Chenin Blanc. The varietal is now consistently deemed world-class by international critics. I am thrilled!’
