The pitch perfect Stellenbosch township
ensemble, AmaZink
Live, will descend on the oak lined streets of its hometown, when the next
Street Soiree conjures up a symphony of local food, wine and music talent on 11
February 2015.
This pulsating music group is one of Stellenbosch’s finest exports,
straight from South Africa’s first Township dinner theatre in Kayamandi and
will add pizzazz to this popular after-work
get-together where strangers become friends over a glass of vino and something
tasty in hand, right there on the pavement.
“Our bi-monthly Stellenbosch Street Soirees
take place in the town’s bustling Drostdy Street, when cars make way for a
merry crowd to mingle, indulge in Stellenbosch wines and snack on gourmet bites
by famed resident foodies,” explains Elmarie Rabe of the Stellenbosch Wine
Routes.
In
tune with the ‘street culture vibe’, the shining AmaZink Live cast promises to
enthral guests with a musical adventure of yesteryear classics and modern hits,
lead by professional performer and theatre director Ramaine Barreiro-Lloyd,
celebrated for her versatility in both the genres and languages she performs.
What
started out as an unlicensed tavern which was nearly demolished has since
flourished into AmaZink Live, a proudly South African musical production of
culturally authentic performances by super talented artists residing in
Kayamandi.
Since
opening its doors in 2010, AmaZink Live has been going strong, attracting
people from all over the world with their breath-taking performances and
vibrant personalities that ooze the township vibe. The terrifically tumultuous
South African journey resonates through their music as melodious mementos of
hope, courage, peace and an unbridled zest for life.
“The
entire AmaZink Live cast is assembled from Kayamandi residents with no previous
performing experience. We then audition, train, work-shop and sculpt these
amateurs into solid gold stars before venturing onto the theatre stage,”
explains Ramaine.
The communal Stellenbosch Street Soirees
enthrals a cool and hip crowd from 18h00 to 20h00 and each event features a
different selection of cellars and eateries. R50 gets you a glass so that you
can taste to your heart’s content on the evening. Yummy street food will be on
sale. Remember Drostdy Street in Stellies is where all the action is at!
Stellenbosch Street Soirees dates to
diarise for 2015:
11 February (AmaZink Live) & 25 February (when
Newton & Co will be performing); 11 March (AmaZink Live again) & 25
March (Newton & Co) – weather permitting
