Follow gently twinkling lights amongst the vineyards to the Blaauwklippen Twilight Christmas Market every evening from the 15 – 19 of December.
The Twilight Christmas Market has become a firm favourite during the festive season because of the unique and charming atmosphere – imagine a beautiful summer’s evening in the company of loved ones under a canopy of century old wild fig trees. Africa meets Europe here where the old farm buildings and vineyards welcome mistletoe and fairy lights.
Tantalizing international aromas waft gently through the still air while you enjoy a glass of refreshing brew – from delicately brewed iced tea to crazy cocktails and wine. On the menu are the traditional and unexpected: “potjiekos, spitbraai”, Flammkuchen, Mexican steak baskets, Belgian steaks by a master chef; “krokette en bitterballen”. Christmas cakes, mince pies, pancakes and artisanal ice cream will lure you from your seat towards the end of the evening – for sure.
Taste our hand crafted gin, the Juniper Berry Gin which captivates with its smooth fullness and menthol-like herby whiffs served with a stimulating citrus touch and delicious as a Pink Gin or Negroni; the Citrus Infusion Gin with its opulent scents of orange, lemon, lime and red grapefruit on the nose while the juniper berries present menthol and eucalyptus aromas adding complexity. Enjoy this one in a Martini Cocktail or as a basis for a Tom Collins; the African Botanicals Gin with its soft, round and elegant herbal scents that separates this Gin from any other and pretty good as a gin in a Fizz, a Bees Knees or straight in a Martini with olive.
What better place to look for Christmas gifts among the numerous craft stalls. Admire the goods at the fashion stalls; be captivated by the items at the antique and vintage stalls and dazzled by the jewellery stalls.
In the mood of an African summer, live music is provided every evening from 18h00 – 22h00. The genres range from the 60s and 70s to a bit of swing and jazz; some “boeremusiek” and even a hint of Irish! The bands will perform popular Christmas songs in their own style while family and friends can join us on the 18th of December (from 20h00-20h30) for Carols by Candle Light. Freewheel, and an ensemble of four singers, will accompany the carol singers. We provide song sheets while you can support the children of Blaauwklippen by donating R10 per candle.
Pony rides and fun entertainment will keep the little ones occupied while The Star People will join us from 17-19 December for a bit of star gazing. Join them to learn more about the Sun, Moon, stars and season's best deep-space objects.
The market will take place at the Blaauwklippen wine estate just outside Stellenbosch from the 15th – 19th of December 2015 from 17h00 – 22h00. Entry to the market is free.
