Meerendal Wine Estate in Durbanville, the Prologue Venue of the ABSA Cape Epic for the past three years, announced today (29 January 2014) that it will be sponsoring 20 teams to take part in this year’s international ABSA Cape Epic Mountain Bike race that starts at Meerendal on 23 March 2014.

In the men’s division, Swiss top rider and four times ABSA Cape Epic Winner Christoph Sauser will
participate in Team Meerendal colours while previous ABSA Cape Epic Winners Ester Suss from
Switzerland and Sally Bigham from the UK will form a strong team in the ladies section for Team
Meerendal.

The owner of Meerendal, Herman Coertze, is delighted to have top riders from eight countries in
their team. “We have been involved with the Prologue of the ABSA Cape Epic for three years now
and it was an easy decision to expand our involvement with this international event. Meerendal is
home to various sport bodies and these sponsorships further reinforce our commitment to sport in
general.”

Other top names that have confirmed that they will be riding for Team Meerendal include Olympic
Gold Medallist and previous ABSA Cape Epic Winner Bart Brentjens, previous ABSA Cape Epic grand
master Champion from Switzerland Barti Bucher and other professional riders like Lukas Buchli,
Hansueli Stauffer, Philipp Gerber, and Damian Perrin.

In the ladies section professional riders Laura Turpijn, Sara Mertens, Sabina Compassi, Milena Landtwing and Hielke Elferink, the current Dutch Champion, have also confirmed their participation for Team Meerendal.

Meerendal will be sponsoring teams in all the divisions of the Absa Cape Epic: Mens, Ladies, Mixed,
Masters and Grand Masters and would like to dominate the podium during the 2014 ABSA Cape
Epic.

From this week, a number of teams will arrive in South Africa to train at Meerendal Wine Estate and
other trails to prepare them for the ABSA Cape Epic in March 2014.
