Lunching For A Cause With The Cape Leopard Trust

Leopard's Leap
After a successful inaugural event, which raised over R600, 000 in 2014, the Cape Leopard Trust Fundraiser returns on Saturday, 15 August at the Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards in Franschoek.

The beautiful luncheon will be hosted by Master of Ceremonies Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, a returning host, and Africa Melane who is the perfect complement to her energy and enthusiasm with his calm and relaxed demeanour.

The function will see celebrity chefs each preparing and demonstrating tantalizing dishes in a state-of-the-art kitchen that is fully equipped with a demonstration bench. Cameras and two television screens will keep guests closely involved with the culinary action. After the tutorials guests can look forward to enjoying modern and delicious dishes that will be paired perfectly with Leopard’s Leap wines.

The programme includes these four celebrity chefs:

Pieter de Jager

The young, vibrant and eager-to-teach Pieter de Jager is the hospitable host of the much-loved and very hands-on cooking classes at Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards. He is also the mastermind behind the popular Rotisserie-based lunches and seasonal harvest tables that are regularly sold out at the estate.

Christo Pretorius

The much-respected Christo Pretorius is the Executive Chef of Azure Restaurant at The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa in Cape Town. He was recently named Red Carnation’s Chef of the Year 2013/2014 and one of South African Sustainable Seafood Initiative eight ‘trailblazers’, each one responsible for promoting sustainable cooking and shopping practices.

Floris Smit

Chef Floris Smit has put Bushmans Kloof on the global culinary map. Using truly South African ingredients like fynbos and rooibos, he will thrill guests with Cape Malay influenced dishes that are served with flair.

Michelle Theron

The wonderful Michelle Theron has been part of Pierneef a La Motte since it opened its doors in 2010. Passionate about traditional cuisine and dedicated to sourcing sustainable ingredients – she is able to translate traditional flavours into modern and on-trend dishes.

Event information

The first year’s funds were donated to the Predator Ecology & Coexistence Experiment (PEACE). The PEACE project is located in the Northern Cape and is in partnership with Woolworths and Conservation South Africa (CSA). Working alongside the farming community, its long-term goal is to explore ethical predator management in order to develop a supply chain of ‘wildlife friendly’ lamb for the consumer market.

This year funds raised will go towards sustaining The Cape Leopard Trust operations, primarily paying airtime for satellite tracking collars, fuel and financing the resumption of the Cederberg leopard research project.

Tickets are already available for R1, 500 per person and further funds will be generated through an auction on the day. All proceeds will be donated to the Cape Leopard Trust.
