Nederburg Wines
After recently winning the 2016 International Wine & Spirit Competition trophy for best Cabernet Sauvignon in the world, for the 2013 vintage of its Private Bin Cabernet Sauvignon, the Paarl winery emerged as one of the top performers at the 2016 Veritas Awards, held in Cape Town earlier this month.

Nederburg’s undisputed ability to delight and ignite curiosity with its dessert wines was clearly evident, with a Veritas double gold medal awarded to the 2012 vintage of Nederburg’s flagship natural sweet wine, Eminence. The same limited-edition wine, reserved for exclusive sale at the annual Nederburg Auction, was the only South African wine featured as one of the top ten wines in the 2016 Muscats du Monde in France earlier this year, also earning a gold medal. It also won trophies at the 2016 International Wine Challenge (IWC) in the United Kingdom, and the 2016 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show in South Africa.

Although three wines made exclusively for the Nederburg Auction were included in the Veritas gold medal line-up, including Nederburg Eminence 2013 as well as Edelkeur 2012 and 2013, three other wines from Nederburg’s multi-tiered range were also awarded gold.  These were:

  • Nederburg Ingenuity White 2014
  • Nederburg Heritage Heroes The Motorcycle Marvel Rhône-style blend 2014
  • Nederburg II Centuries Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Meanwhile, Nederburg also won two double golds and two gold medals at the recent 2016 Six Nations Wine Challenge, the annual New World wine competition staged between Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA. Double gold medals were awarded to Nederburg II Centuries Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 as well as Nederburg Edelkeur 2005.

And Nederburg Eminence 2012 was once again highlighted, winning a gold medal. The second gold medal went to Nederburg Heritage Heroes The Young Airhawk 2015, the same wooded Sauvignon blanc that won the Nestlé Pure Life Trophy for Best Sauvignon Blanc at the 2016 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show earlier this year.

“The Nederburg team is thrilled. What an honour to have so many of our wines highlighted on such prestigious platforms, not only in South Africa but also internationally. We are immensely proud of our winemaking and viticulture teams, who deserve all this recognition for their drive, continued hard work and innovation. Their ongoing quest to better their best efforts, while honouring Nederburg’s proud heritage and pedigree, clearly shows,” says Dè-Mari Shaw, Nederburg’s global general manager.

Note:

Earlier this year, Nederburg was one of just 50 wineries globally to feature on the prestigious 2016 Drinks International list of the world's most admired brands. The list was compiled by 200 wine experts, including 30 Masters of Wine.
