Alto
Alto Estate introduces their Estate Blend 2022, shares a harvest update, and invites you to visit them this Easter long weekend and try their summer pairing.

Introducing our flagship Estate Blend 2022

The Alto Estate Blend is our flagship wine and is a carefully crafted blend of our three main varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Cabernet Franc. A truly multi-dimensional and engaging wine and a tribute to our iconic estate.

Each component contributes a unique characteristic to the final wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon adds dark fruit, power and stature. The Shiraz adds complexity and depth, and the Cabernet Franc enhances the freshness and balance of the blend.

2022 has been highlighted as an exceptional vintage for Alto, with deeply concentrated flavours and an intoxicating aroma of fynbos, pencil shavings and a slightly salty, maritime presence. Expect a broad-shouldered structure with firm, muscular tannins and lush, layered complexity. Whilst still awaiting award season, previous vintages such as the Estate Blend 2020 have won both Platter’s 5 stars and Red Blend of Year.

A must-have for the discerning collector’s cellar, each vintage is produced in limited quantities.

Harvest update

We officially ended our 2024 harvest last week Friday, 22 March 2024.

The last grapes to come into the cellar was our noble Cabernet Sauvignon which makes up about 60% of our total harvest, this grape is used in all of our blends as well our single variety estate wine.

We had favourable weather conditions over the last few weeks leading up to the end of harvest which helped our Cabernet Sauvignon to reach optimum ripeness.

Even though harvest is complete, the work continues in the cellar. All of our Shiraz grapes have been processed and pressed and are busy with Malolactic fermentation, the team will now be focusing on our Cabernet Sauvignon.

With the 2024 harvest ending, Bertho says that everything is looking very promising in the cellar. The wines are showing great colour intensity, good flavour concentration and balance.  “A stand-out thus far are the aromatics, especially on Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The nose is one of the winemaker’s most important tools, and the aromas I have experienced working with this year’s fermenting juice and young wines are truly exceptional,” he says.

We look forward to tasting the first wines of 2024 in the years to come.
