In Lord Byron's "Don Juan" it is aptly written, "Let us have wine and women, mirth and laughter; Sermons and soda water the day after". And so it will be done at the Winning Women in Wine dinner and wine soirée.
The Cape Wine Academy in association with Destiny magazine invites Gauteng's thriving businesswomen to meet and dine with eight major players in South Africa's Wine Industry, who also happen to be dynamic and powerful women.

To be held at Lekgotla Restaurant on Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton on 24 June at 18h30 onwards, guests will be hosted throughout the evening by all of the eight "winning women in wine" whilst experiencing Lekogotla's chef, Franc Lubbe's delectable foods and the wines direct from the various hostesses wine estates.

The evenings hostesses will be the eight "winning women in wine" and they are:
  • Nontsikelelo Biyela from Stellakaya, South Africa's first black woman winemaker
  • Beverly Farmer, founder member and CEO of Women in Wine, which is the first wine producing company owned, controlled and managed by women
  • Erica Obermeyer from Graham Beck Wines
  • Susan Wessels from Vrede en Lust Wine Estate
  • Jenny Ratcliffe-Wright - the Cape Wine Master - who is also author of "Spit or Swallow", A Guide for the Wine Virgin - from Warwick Wine Estate
  • Nomvuyo Xaliphi from Ses'fikile, one of the trio female wine entrepreneurs; and
  • Sue Birch, CEO of Wines of South Africa, a Section 21 body mandated by the wine industry to promote South African wines in export markets.
Bringing these successful women together is the brainchild of Marilyn Cooper, Managing Director of the Cape Wine Academy and a member of the Soweto Wine Festival. She says, "The whole idea is for women to get together and network whilst wining and dining with our acclaimed women in wine hostesses. The evening will be a fun and sociable occasion in a relaxed ambiance with good food and even better wines."

Marilyn Cooper adds that the association with the women powerhouse-team at Destiny magazine brings much to the table, as they are perfect partners in bringing such an inspiration of women together.

Khanyi Dhlomo, Founding Editor of Destiny magazine and Managing Director of Ndalo Media agrees, adding, "This evening event will provide wine enthusiasts with the opportunity to interact and network with these warm and successful women, all of whom have great stories to tell from both industry development and personal life."

To book call Cape Wine Academy on (011) 783-4585 or email Marilyn on cwa@iafrica.com. Prices are R250 per person and tables of ten are available for corporates. Includes buffet and wine.
