Two of KWV's fortified wines have achieved standout
success at recent competitions recognising the renewed efforts of the
producer in this category.
KWV's Cape Tawny Port N/V won second place,
Reserve Champion Cape Tawny Port Award, at the prestigious SAPPA Port
Challenge held in Stellenbosch, while the White Muscadel N/V achieved a gold
medal at the Muscats du Monde International Wine Competition in France.
The SAPPA (South African Port Producers Association) Port Challenge
recognises top examples of the different styles of port that are available
on the local market. This year's event was adjudicated by five judges of the
Port Panel, which was chaired by Honorary Cape Wine Master, Dave Hughes.
The Muscats du Monde, which has been recognising the world's best Muscadel
wines since 2000, was hosted over two days in the city of
Frontignan-la-Peyrade in France where 206 wines were tasted. Only 32 gold
and 37 silver medals were awarded in the competition.
"We are delighted by these results," said chief winemaker Richard Rowe. "To
achieve such success with our Lifestyle fortified wines confirms that our
wines are amongst the best on the market."
"These awards are particularly exciting and encouraging as we aim to improve
the quality and style of our entire fortified range," said Rowe. "We are
striving to produce fortified wines that are slightly lower in alcohol, and
with greater emphasis on palate generosity, concentration and sweetness.
It's also a bonus that our wines offer extraordinary value for money."
"KWV has been producing fortified wines for over 90 years," he continued, "and while we recognise and respect our heritage, we are excited to be
instrumental in driving fortified styles that will be more in keeping with
consumer demand, and the responsible consumption of alcohol."
