Tulbagh Winery
Tulbagh Winery, established in 1906, is involved in a variety of social responsibility programmes in the community "families" of Tulbagh and Porterville. This demonstrates that the winery has a heart for its people.
At present, Tulbagh Winery is committed to two projects of social responsibility.
  • The BEE project on Moravia-farm in the Piketberg area, owned 49% by employees, comprising people from previously disadvantaged groups.
  • Support for two old-age homes in Tulbagh and Porterville.
Moravia Farm

Four shareholders farm the Moravia project in the Piketberg area of the Swartland, namely the farm and cellar workers with 49%; Tulbagh Winery with 16% and a farmer with a 35% share. A point of interest are the varietals planted on the farm. These include Barbera, Malbec, Mourvedre, Petit Verdot, Touriga Nacional and Viognier. Tulbagh Winery currently handles all administrative affairs on behalf of this project.

Support for Caring Centres

The winery supports the two old-age caring centres of Huis Disa in Tulbagh and Huis Nerina in Porterville, by donating a percentage from each bottle of wine sold in South Africa, to them. This community involvement also appears on the back labels of its wines.

Huis Nerina in Porterville does not only cater to the needs of its residents but also assists previously disadvantaged elderly people by supplying them with food hampers and meals, while Huis Disa, amongst others, organises and caters for monthly support meetings for the elderly, amongst the farm workers in the community.

Both centres have multiracial management teams.

ARA

ARA is the Wine Industry’s Code of Conduct to improve awareness about the responsible use of alcohol and the nature and risks of alcohol abuse. Tulbagh Winery is one of the first wineries to print the ARA logo on its back labels to show commitment to their social responsibility.
