Kleine Zalze wines have again demonstrated the high esteem they enjoy, thanks to the results of several premier international wine competitions announced in recent days. Crowning the achievements of the Stellenbosch wine farm was its trophy duo at the Michelangelo International Wine &
Spirit Awards, which includes Family
Reserve Chenin Blanc 2013 winning the Grand
Prix title as overall champion.
Also winning a trophy was the maiden vintage MCC, the Kleine Zalze Vintage Brut 2009, singled
out from a broad field of entries by a global panel of judges as winner of the
trophy for the best MCC.
The panel went on to award Double Gold to the Kleine
Zalze Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, Kleine Zalze Vintage Brut 2009 and Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Chenin Blanc 2013; and, Gold for Kleine Zalze Cellar Selection Chardonnay 2014 and Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Shiraz 2010.
The achievement follows hot on the
heels of its 15 gold and silver medals garnered at the International Wine & Spirit Competition and Mundus Vini International Wine Awards
in recent weeks.
“Rather than strive for recognition of a single wine or varietal, we’ve focused on getting the basics right and these awards demonstrate the success of that strategy,”
says Kleine Zalze Managing Director Kobus Basson. “The performance of the entire range, across different cultivars and styles,
is a result of consistency and a pursuit of excellence that is applied in all
our viticultural and winemaking processes.”
This explains the strength of even the youngest
additions to the Kleine Zalze portfolio. The Grand Prix-winning Family Reserve
Chenin Blanc 2013 is only the second vintage of this wine. It was also a Gold
medal winner at the recent Mundus Vini International Wine Awards, along with
the Kleine Zalze Vineyard Selection Chardonnay 2013.
Last year, the Kleine Zalze Vineyard Selection
Chardonnay 2012 received the platinum title at Michelangelo, along with a
sought-after Gran D’Or medal for the Kleine Zalze Vineyard Selection Shiraz
Mourvédre Viognier 2011 and a further three Gold medals.
The Michelangelo
International Wine Awards give local wines the opportunity to be evaluated
by international judges. The IWSC is also known for the quality of its judging panel as well as
a rigorous two-stage evaluation of wines that involves blind tasting and laboratory
analysis. Mundus Vini is a premier wine competition held in Germany, a key market for South African wines.
