On the 31st October, De Wetshof
Estate in Robertson will be hosting the most prestigious Chardonnay day in all
the land, the bi-annual Celebration of Chardonnay. It’s an absolute fairytale
of an occasion and calls SA’s best Chardonnay producers, as well as winemakers
from overseas, to talk about their first love.
I am a huge Chardonnay fan, most of you know
this as I can’t seem to shut up about it. My love for it actually started at
the 2012 Celebration of Chardonnay and so De Wetshof has a special place in my
heart for bringing the magic to me. I therefore have decided to make this
month’s pairing guide all about that luscious, versatile white grape.
Sweet and Salty bacon canapes
Bacon is everything. These little morsels of
greatness are perfect for dinner parties or scoffing in front of the T.V - I
don't judge.
When it comes to pairing it, salty dishes and Chardonnay MCCs work wonderfully together. My choice is Spier Signature Méthode Cap Classique 2012 R135

Spaghetti with avocado cream and salted
peanuts
Who doesn't love pasta?! (Except maybe those gluten-free peeps) Avos are everywhere right now and the creaminess of them is a Chardonnay's great friend. The saltiness is also a plus for those slightly richer wines.
I recommend Kanu Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2011 R92.

Bang Bang Chicken
Something slightly spicy and totally moreish.
This recipe is easy to make and you can marinade the chicken overnight for
extra flavour.
A lightly oaked Chardonnay will suit this
perfectly as it will cope with the slight heat. Try the Graham Beck Waterside Chardonnay 2014 R57

Mild Korma
Super quick to put together and deliciously creamy, it's also incredibly easy to make and would be great with some homemade naan bread.
Try the Eikendal "Janina" Unwooded Chardonnay 2013 R67

Rustic Raspberry Lemon Cheesecake Tart
Flaky pastry, tart lemon, sweet raspberry and
creamy cheese-ness all complemented by a delicious glass of bubbly.
Yes, this is a killer dessert and that person
drooling at your window when you make it will be me. Let me in!
