One of the great five red varietals of Bordeaux, Cabernet Franc usually disappears into the ubiquitous Bordeaux-style blend, but in South Africa, this more elegant refined cousin of Cabernet Sauvignon has been coming into its own over the last decade with a dedicated fan base growing by the day.
More and more winemakers are trying their hand at at the varietal as well, but lovers of this grape still have to travel far and wide to satisfy their passion.

Now thirteen of the best-known Cabernet Franc producers are getting together on Saturday, 20 June 2015 from 12h00 - 17h00 at Avontuur Estate between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, to show off their pride and joy and make it easy to taste and buy the wines directly from the winemakers.

"It’s an intimate event with limited tickets for sale and it will be a wonderful winter celebration of the best we have in the country. Combine that with food stalls, a cosy space with lounge and café seating and one-on-one interaction with winemakers, we believe it’s the perfect way to spend a winter afternoon, ” says Organisor Cobie van Oort.

Participating wineries are: Avontuur Estate, Camberley Wines, Cape Chamonix, CK Wines, Doolhoof Wine Estate, Druk-My-Niet Wine Estate, Hermanuspietersfontein, Lynx Wines, Mont du Toit, Ormonde Vineyards,Raats Family Wines, Ridgeback and Nelson Family Vineyards.
