Kleine Zalze
It has been an exceptional year for Kleine Zalze as the 2015 Cellar Selection Chenin Blanc Bush Vines is heralded as ‘Best of Show - South Africa White’, along with a Gold medal at the Mundus Vini International Wine Awards Summer Tasting 2015.

A remarkable follow-through indeed, considering the honours bestowed on Kleine Zalze’s Family Reserve Chenin Blanc 2013 at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles as ‘Best White Wine Overall’ in May 2015. It was only the second time that a wine from South Africa has achieved a top place at this distinguished competition.

Significantly, Kleine Zalze’s Chenin Blancs shine bright, not just across the vintages and through every range produced, but also at various price-points. While the flagship premium range Family Reserve Chenin Blanc 2013 was lauded as the Best White Wine Overall at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, it was the mid-range Vineyard Selection Chenin Blanc 2014 that was awarded the Harold Eedes Chenin Blanc Trophy at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2015. Now, the latest accolade at the Mundus Vini Summer Tasting 2015 highlights the popular level Cellar Selection Chenin Blanc Bush Vines 2015 as the ‘Best of Show - South Africa White’. Humbly priced at R43 per bottle, Kleine Zalze wines are clearly able to hit the mark every time.

‘This is, of course, largely due to the focused devotion of the winemaking team to meet the overall quality philosophy,’ Managing Director Kobus Basson expressed with much excitement, adding, ‘We are so thrilled with this news – these awards are a true testament to the intricate attention to detail and passion that goes into each and every drop of wine we create. There is a clear and consistent vision that follows through, a golden thread across all our wines. What really makes this of such importance to us, is that our range of quality wines can be shared and enjoyed by the entire market of wine-lovers – no matter the budget or style preference.’

Not only do the Chenin Blancs continue to impress, one of the sister white wines, the Kleine Zalze Vineyard Selection Chardonnay 2014, attained a highly coveted Gold medal at this year’s Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards. Gold medals were awarded to the Kleine Zalze Méthode Cap Classique Brut Rosé Non-Vintage (recently released) at the recent 2015 Amorim Cork Cap Classique Challenge, and for the Vintage Brut 2010 at the 2015 International Wine Challenge. The Vintage Brut 2009 received a Gold medal at the International Wine & Spirit Challenge 2015, and was presented with the prestigious MCC Trophy and Double Gold at the 2014 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirit Awards.

The clarity of vision for a consistent quality offering is further illustrated by its red wines – the Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 achieved a Gold medal at Mundus Vini International Wine Awards 2015, and a Grand Gold medal at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles earlier this year. This was one of the Cabernets in particular that held a captive audience at a nine-wine Kleine Zalze Comparative Cabernet Sauvignon media and trade tasting held at The Twelve Apostles, Cape Town, in July this year. Themed appropriately: ‘Through the Vintages and Across the Ranges’, this reaffirms the quality matrix of Kleine Zalze wines.

A constant top performer in wine shows both locally and abroad, six Kleine Zalze wines have achieved five-star status in the highly regarded Platter’s South African Wine Guide.

The Kleine Zalze Cellar Selection Chenin Blanc 2014 retails for approximately R43, the Vineyard Selection Chenin Blanc 2014 for R77, the Family Reserve wines for approximately R140 (white wines) and R280 (red wines), and the Vineyard Selection Chardonnay for R80 a bottle. The Non Vintage MCC’s are priced at R90 and the Vintage MCC’s at R140. Kleine Zalze wines are available at selected specialist wine outlets and at the cellar Tasting Room just outside Stellenbosch.
