KLEINE ZALZE wine estate adds to its collection of awards, demonstrating consistent excellence with a coveted five-star rating in the 2016 Platter’s South African Wine Guide for the Kleine Zalze Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2012.
This achievement at Platter’s comes hot on the heels of its stellar performance at the recent FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 which included the Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Sur Lie Sauvignon Blanc 2015 - a wine that also received a Double Gold Veritas award.

Over the years, five-stars have been awarded to the premium range Kleine Zalze Family Reserve wines - the Chenin Blanc 2012, Sauvignon Blanc 2012, 2010 and 2009, and the Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 - and so owner and managing director Kobus Basson was thrilled to see five-stars awarded to a Vineyard Selection wine. He noted,
‘Vineyard Selection is our mid-tier range, and once again, this reaffirms that the principle factor behind Kleine Zalze is absolute consistency across all of its ranges, cultivars and vintages.’

Five-stars are awarded to the top wines that emerge from an intensive two-day blind tasting of the 4½-star wines - a new system this year. Platter’s South African Wine Guide is the first and best-selling wine annual of its kind. It was conceived in 1978, and today it is seen as one of the most highly regarded wine advisers.

This year alone has seen a trove of some of the most prestigious global wine awards with the Kleine Zalze Cellar Selection Chenin Blanc Bush Vines 2015 heralded as ‘Best of Show - South Africa White’ at the Mundus Vini International Wine Awards, and the Family Reserve Chenin Blanc 2013 the ‘Best White Wine Overall’ at the 2015 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. It was only the second time that a wine from South Africa has achieved a top place at this distinguished competition. The Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 also received a gold medal at Concours Mondial. The Kleine Zalze Vineyard Selection wines are elegantly structured, with complex layers of fruit and wood. Priced at between R77 and R110 per bottle, there is such value in the quality matrix of Kleine Zalze Wines.

In addition to the Platter’s accolade, the Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Sur Lie Sauvignon Blanc 2015, not yet released, was part of the final line-up at this year’s recent FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10. The wine is noteworthy for its full-bodied and rich texture with a good balance of flavours, and will mature well over the next 10 years. This specific style of ‘sur lie’ or ‘on the lees’, contributes to the depth, richness and the maturation potential. (R148 per bottle for the current 2013 vintage).
