Nederburg Auction
South Africa’s top wine producers are set to showcase their creations to an increasingly diverse buyer audience at the 2016 Nederburg Auction as this event continues to attract rare wine collectors from across the globe.

South Africa’s top wine producers are set to showcase their creations to an increasingly diverse buyer audience at the 2016 Nederburg Auction as this event continues to attract rare wine collectors from across the globe.

The event, which marks its 42nd year in 2016, takes place on September 16 and 17 at Nederburg in Paarl, and producers are invited to submit their most exceptional wines, which they can do by clicking here

To cater to the tastes of this more diverse buyer group, the Auction selection panel for 2016 has an even larger international representation. Auction manager Dalene Steyn says six out of eight judges are Masters of Wine (MW), and hail from as far as Hong Kong, Sweden and the UK. Their varied backgrounds, which include winemaking, retail, and journalism, ensure that each offers a sound, expert perspective when it comes to selecting the right wine for the auction platform, giving bidders complete reassurance when paying premium prices.

Steyn says the selection panel is given an exceptionally tight brief to select only the very best wines to satisfy a truly international palate. This has resulted in lower volumes selected year on year, with lot sizes also being reduced accordingly to ensure that all bidders have an opportunity to acquire wines without unnaturally inflating prices. Thanks to the icon status that certain wines on auction are starting to achieve, this increasing rarity factor is automatically leading to higher prices per volumes achieved.

“Record sales from the past two years prove that the combination of lower volumes and increase in the quality of the Auction offering is attractive to our growing pool of fine wine buyers, who are looking for fine, rare gems to add to their collections.

“Being selected is tough, of course, but if successful, a great marketing opportunity for our producers, with the added benefit of the Nederburg Seal of Approval attached to each bottle sold at the Auction being a great consumer buying guideline.”

Red wines five years and older, and white wines older than two years may be entered. Participating producers receive 75% of the income from sales at the auction.
