Be there for Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, when Africa's first UCI*-registered team begins the 3 519km Tour de France this weekend. And celebrate with some fine wine from Nederburg, the squad's exclusive premium wine partner.

The team is doing more than competing in the world's most iconic cycling race. It's also riding for a cause. Apart from igniting and spreading a love for cycling in Africa and helping to build the continent’s professional racing skills, it's cycling for Qhubeka, a non-profit organisation that uses bicycles to make a socio-economic impact.

To date, Qhubeka has distributed bicycles to over 63 000 people in South Africa in return for social development projects or to reward academic excellence.

Qhubeka means "to progress" in isiZulu. Giving bicycles to needy South Africans increases the distance and speed at which they can travel, whether for work, school or community. Bicycles let riders carry more books, more goods for sale, and more medicines and other supplies they can distribute. That's why Qhubeka can rightly make the claim that "bicycles change lives".

Global marketing spokesperson for Nederburg, Dè-Mari Shaw said: “Nederburg is fully behind the team, and especially proud to be helping Qhubeka to reach more people, and change more lives."

"Across the continent, Africans will be backing the team that has more than shown its mettle, its determination and outstanding skill. There have been so many World Tour highlights for Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka already. Earlier in June, team member Steve Cummings won the final stage of the Critéterium du Dauphiné while Edvald Boasson Hagen and Daniel Teklehaimanot secured the overall win in the Points and KOM classifications."

She said Nederburg was not only one of South Africa's best-loved and most-decorated names in wine, it is also currently ranked as one of the world's most admired wine brands. Earlier this year, it was featured on the 2016 Drinks International list of the world's most admired wine brands. The 50 brands were identified by a group of 200 wine experts, including 30 Masters of Wine.
