The results for the Vitis Vinifera Awards have been released and Jason’s Hill has managed to be one of the Top 7 producers. Working with the Cape Wine Academy, the wines for the 5th Vitis Vinifera Awards were tasted on the 7th and 8th September 2017. The competition showed many entries for Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Shiraz, Merlot and Chardonnay. Chenin Blanc, in general, proofed to do quite well this year, making us that more happy to announce Jason’s Hill Chenin Blanc 2017 scored Gold, while our Merlot 2015 scored Double Gold. The Merlot has managed to do one better than last year’s Gold, proving Jason’s Hill reds gets better with age.
But wait that is not all: Tim Atkin has published his 2017 South Africa Special Report and Jason’s Hill is featuring in it. While visiting the Breedekloof Valley in July, Master of Wine, Tim Atkin tasted various wines from the area, including some of the wines from Jason’s Hill. The report is being published during WOSA’s Intrepid Tasting in London the 13th September 2017. In it, Jason’s Hill scored 87 for our Shiraz 2013, 90 for our Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 and a remarkable 91 for our Izak Reserve 2013.
Even more, our Izak Reserve 2013 has received its second IWSC (International Wine and Spirit Competition) Silver medal. This competition was started 48 year ago to not only judge a wine on its tasting, but also on its technical analysis. Today it is one of the most prestigious competitions for wine and spirit producers internationally, receiving entries from 90 different countries. The judging panel is chosen from 300 expert judges and the winning wines are subject to technical analysis.
We are very proud of all of these results. Receiving international awards is always an honour, together with being one of the 7 top producers for Vitis Vinifera. We feel that we are definitely reaching our goal of creating excellent wines.
