New technology is helping cork regain its rightful position as the world's favourite way to seal a wine bottle, says British wine personality Jilly Goolden.
Call me sentimental, call me a traditionalist, but corks have a romance to them. There's something undoubtedly theatrical about opening a bottle of wine with a natural cork. Kumala, the best-selling brand from South Africa has, to a bottle, always been committed to plastic corks, but its technical director, Ed Adams, admits he was "very impressed'' on a recent trip to the Amorim plant in Portugal.
