Elgin Vintners Rosé 2008

Clear, bright pink colour. Nose is clean and fresh with forthcoming fruit with a multi-layered complexity of strawberries and red berries. Smooth entry with firm, crisp acidity, ripe fruit flavours with beautiful follow through. Great balance between acidity and fruit and natural sugar. Intricate complexity with a lingering aftertaste.

ageing : This wine drinks exceptionally well now but will benefit from a year or two in the bottle.

in the vineyard : Six grape growers within the Elgin ward have joined forces to establish Elgin Vintners. The members are fortunate in that they are able to access outstanding quality grapes from within their ranks - each contributing something unique to the final product.

The grapes for the Elgin Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon were harvested from two vineyards sites. The Smart-Dyson trellised Beaulieu vineyard, planted in 2002, is Clone CS 169A grafted onto 101-14 Mgt and Paulsen rootstock. The Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the meticulously managed Belfield vineyards belonging to the Kreft Family is Clone CS 163C. The Belfield vines have been trained to the traditional VSP trellis system.

in the cellar : The grapes were vinified by Ross Gower in his Elgin cellar; the barrels were nurtured by Justin Hoy in the Elgin Vintners Barrel Maturation cellar.
