Hartenberg Riesling 2010

Delicate floral hints with spicy richness. The palate shows layers of soft summer fruits finishing off with a lovely tropical zestiness. This is a quality wine that offers great value and food pairing versatility.

Independent Tasting Note
"...very vibrant bouquet with notes of lime, pressed flowers, ... The palate is fresh on the entry with apple, spice and orange zest, nicely focused with a fresh gooseberry and nettle-tinged finish. This is a commendable Riesling." Robert Parker

ageing : Up to 6 years from vintage

in the vineyard : Riesling at Hartenberg: The first release of the variety was the 1984 vintage and since that time our Rieslings have been recognized in South Africa as one of the "must-buys". The style of the wine has been driven by the market which is in search of dry Riesling, but also giving an impression of sweetness. Carl Schultz ,the Hartenberg Cellarmaster was fortunate to gain an intimate knowledge of the grape, learnt from the "father" of the grape in South Africa, Frans Malan, in the time he worked at his Simonsig Estate.

about the harvest: Harvested entirely by hand at daybreak to respect the delicateness of this variety. Bunch & berry sorting happened in the vineyard, thereby ensuring that only the healthiest grapes arrives at the cellar. About 25 % of the grapes showed positive presence of Botrytis.

in the cellar : One of the noblest varieties in the world. It has the smallest bunches and berries of all white varietals, thereby imparting immense flavour and concentration to the resultant wines. Added to this, is the distinction that few other white varietals are able to mature to their betterment, for decades, like the best global examples of Riesling are able to.
