in the vineyard : The grapes for this wine were grown on two different farms in the Helderberg (Kingskloof) and Durbanville (Hillcrest) areas. In both cases the vines were trellised, 7 years old and received no supplementary irrigation.
Annual rainfall: Hillcrest - 750 mm, Kingskloof - 900 mm Proximity to ocean: Hillcrest - 15 km, Kingskloof - 10 km
Soil type: Kingskloof - Hutton and Clovelly, Hillcrest - Glenrosa and Hutton.

about the harvest: Harvest Date: 26 February - 3 March 2003
The southwest-facing vines on Hillcrest yielded 7 tons per hectare.
The south-facing vines on Kingskloof yielded 6.5 tons per hectare.

in the cellar : The grapes were hand-picked at 22.5° Balling and then hand-sorted to select only the finest grapes. Great care was taken to keep the grapes and juice under cool and reductive conditions throughout the vinification process.
